Rockstar Co-Founder Shares Mixed Feelings on Physical Media for GTA 6

Rockstar co-founder says he personally doesn't mind if games skip disc releases, but believes companies should offer physical media if fans want it.
Rockstar Games co-founder has weighed in on the ongoing physical vs. digital debate, and his take is more nuanced than a simple yes or no. According to PC Gamer, he admitted he doesn't personally care whether games ship on disc — but was quick to add that he genuinely loves physical media and thinks publishers should follow consumer demand.
"If people want that, I think companies should provide it," he said, per PC Gamer. It's a pragmatic stance that stops well short of dismissing disc releases, even if it doesn't exactly champion them either.
The comments arrive at a time when the industry is actively wrestling with the physical media question. Sony sparked controversy with its disc-less PS5 model, and more publishers are leaning into digital-only strategies. For GTA 6 fans, the question of whether Rockstar will offer a full physical release — or potentially a disc with a download code — is one that hasn't been officially answered yet.
Given Grand Theft Auto VI's expected file size and the sheer scale of the game, a physical release with complete on-disc content is far from guaranteed. Rockstar and Take-Two haven't announced packaging or edition details for the title. What the co-founder's comments do signal, though, is that there's at least an awareness inside Rockstar's founding circle that fan appetite for physical copies matters.
Whether that translates into a proper disc release for GTA 6 remains to be seen — it's a question worth watching as the game's launch window gets closer.
